Until 2006 excursions from South Wales ran via this route to The Royal Welsh Show, held near Builth each year in late July;
they did not use this route in 2007 and 2008 but resumed in 2009.

Moor Road (Leeds) station - Balm Road loop [Middleton Railway]
On the weekend of the railway's Autumn Gala, usually held towards the end of September, and the Diesel Gala,
usually held in June, trains have, in recent years, been known to use this section, some trains being
freight trains carrying passengers. Check the railway's website, under Timetable and Events Details, for these and other events.

On some Bank Holiday Mondays a chartered shuttle service of trains between Aylesbury and Quainton Road uses this section.

On the four Sundays prior to Christmas
an hourly shopping service runs between Shotts and Glasgow Central via Whifflet.

Groombridge - Birchden (former junction near Eridge) [Spa Valley Railway]
Use of the Birchden extension is decided on an individual event basis so the railway do not
publish a definitive list for the year but advise that "it is in use for most gala weekends". Consult their website nearer the time of
each special event. This section of line is being prepared for reopening to regular services (and thereafter will not be shown

For Christmas service trains usually use the Inch Abbey line and this, the third side of the
triangle, to reach Downpatrick Loop Platform.

Schedule: 1400 from Downpatrick and about every 20 minutes to 1700
