Until 2006 excursions from South Wales ran via this route to The Royal Welsh Show, held near Builth each year in late July;
they did not use this route in 2007 and 2008 but did resume in 2009.

Moor Road (Leeds) station - Balm Road loop [Middleton Railway]
On the weekend of the railway's Autumn Gala, usually held towards the end of September, and the Diesel Gala,
usually held in June, trains have, in recent years, been known to use this section, some trains being
freight trains carrying passengers.
2009 dates: 6 and 7 June, 19 and 20 September
Aylesbury Vale Junction - Quainton Road
On some Bank Holiday Mondays a chartered shuttle service of trains between Aylesbury and Quainton Road uses this section.
2009 dates: 4 May, 31 August
2009 schedule: 1000 from Aylesbury and then hourly until 1700, returning 30 mins later
Mossend East Junction - Mossend North Junction (220)
On the four Sundays prior to Christmas
an hourly shopping service runs between Shotts and Glasgow Central via Whifflet.

Groombridge - Birchden (former junction near Eridge) [Spa Valley Railway]
Use of the Birchden extension is decided on an individual event basis so the railway do not
publish a definitive list for the year but advised that "it is in use for most gala weekends".
This section of line should reopen to regular services in future (and thereafter will not be shown
here).

present end of line towards Ballydugan (Ringreagh) [Downpatrick & County Down Railway]
For Hallowe'en and Viking Weekends service trains used this section
(instead of the Inch Abbey line).

Downpatrick Loop Platform: avoiding line east junction - Platform [Downpatrick & County Down Railway]
For Christmas service trains used the Inch Abbey line and this, the third side of the
triangle, to reach Downpatrick Loop Platform.

2009 dates: SSuO 28 November until 20 December
Schedule: 1400 from Downpatrick and about every 20 minutes to 1700
