This grade separated junction had not featured since Spring 2005 but the departure in November 2007 of Eurostar trains
(the raison d'être for construction of the diveunder) from this area resulted in revised usage and warrants
re-inclusion of entries. Normal usage for trains to or from the Catford line was the "ground level" route (next entry).

On the weekend of the railway's Autumn Gala, usually held towards the end of September, trains have
used this section as part of "all-line workings" when so advertised on the railway's website. Although they did not
do so in 2005, 2006 or 2007, they did so on 20/21 September 2008. Note that the line also
used on other occasions (such as Sunday 8 June 2008) when so advertised.

On some Bank Holiday Mondays a chartered shuttle service of trains used this section .

On the four Sundays prior to Christmas
an hourly shopping service - included in the National Rail Timetable from 9 December 2007 - runs between Shotts and Glasgow Central via Whifflet.

Use of the Birchden extension is decided on an individual event basis so the railway do not
publish a definitive list for the year but advised that "it is in use for most gala weekends".
This section of line should reopen to regular services in future (and thereafter will not be shown

A modified service - using both the Ballydugan and the Inch Abbey lines - which had previously operated

For Christmas services trains used the Inch Abbey line and this, the third side of the
triangle, to reach Downpatrick Loop Platform.
